Genesis 21:1 And the Lord visited Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as He had spoken.
This refers back to Genesis 18 when the Lord appeared to Abraham. Where is Sarah thy wife? And Abraham said, Behold, in the tent. And He said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son, And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. Genesis 18:9-10. As the Lord spoke it, so it came to pass.
Genesis 21:2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.
Three times it is recorded in these two verses that God did as He had spoken. The Lord visited Sarah as He had said in verse 1; the Lord did unto Sarah as He had spoken also in verse 1; and Sarah conceived at the set time of which God had spoken in verse 2. This is the ultimate of confirmation and assurance of the fulfillment of God's Word. Wherein God, willing more abundantly to show unto the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath; that by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us (Hebrews 6:17-18).
It is not unbelief to expect God to confirm His Word. It is what He wants us to do. Jesus said, In the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established (Matthew 18:16). To the church in Corinth, Paul writes: This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established (II Corinthians 13:1). How often have you received a word from God but you were not sure if it was a Word from God or just your own thoughts? Almost every time probably. Ask the Lord to give you confirmation. Did you have a dream, a vision, a thought, or a circumstance and you were not sure if it was of God? Expect God to confirm it if it is from Him. That is what He wants you to do. That is not unbelief! He is very much aware of our limitations, but He is not limited at all. And do not make it easy for Him! You must know for sure what you are receiving is from Him. This is how we learn the voice of the Lord. The confirmation will come to what He has spoken, and as He has spoken it will come to pass.
