Created by a Word

The Word works! Everything God does is done through a Word. It is the medium by which God functions.

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds (Greek: aion = “ages”) were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

The ages are framed by a Word from God. Not just ages such as Ice Age, Stone Age, Iron Age, Electronic Age, etc., but also the spiritual ages or phases we pass through as we go from glory to glory in the Lord (II Corinthians 3:18). If we are open and responsive to the Word, we are changing. We are moving from one age to another. The ages are framed by a Word from God.

When we hear a Word and respond to that Word, then there is a new beginning. Our spirit goes through a new phase of creativity. Every time the process is repeated there is another new beginning. Spiritual growth is taking place. We’re becoming a new people; the Body of Christ is being created.

Matthew 24:6-8 And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that you be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows (birthpangs).

All of these troubles – warfare, famine, pestilences, and earthquakes – are the beginnings of birthpangs. Something is being birthed; a new creation is coming forth. While Matthew 24 is basically speaking of the end of one age and the beginning of a new age (the Kingdom of God), these verses also are typical of the reactions within us as we are birthed into a new age (realm) in God. The Word we receive not only brings us forth into a new realm of God, but it destroys the old realm. The present age we are living in is dying while the new age is coming forth. The Word of God does both – it destroys and creates.

In the prophecy of Jeremiah, the Lord said: Is not My Word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces? Jeremiah 23:29. We receive the Word and until it comes to pass in our lives it tries us (Psalm 105:19). The first thing we experience is the burning up of the dross and the breaking up of the rock. Regardless of how good we feel our present spiritual realm is, and regardless of how much the Lord has blessed us on that realm, it will become a rut if we do not progress onward in God. It will become a rock that must be dynamited by the Word of God.

Through faith we understand that the ages are framed by the Word of God. The faith is important. The Word holds the potential for each new level in God. It does not, however, change us automatically. The Word works when we believe. Some people who are exposed to the Word are never changed at all. It is because the Word is not mixed with faith in them. For unto us was the Gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the Word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. Hebrews 4:2.

We determine how effective the Word will be in our lives. If it is limited, it is because of unbelief (Hebrews 3:19). Believe for the Word to work in your life. Let it break you forth into the next level in God. Through faith we understand that the ages are framed by the Word of God.
